Internet Access
Wired Connections:
Each double occupancy apartment offers two plugs, one on each of the two opposite block walls. Each plug has a connection point for hooking up your TV to our 30 channel satellite TV (Dish Network), which is located in the center of the plug. Some single occupancy apartments also have the two sets of plugs, and some have just one.
Directly above and below the TV hookup connector, there are two connections for connecting your computer to our high speed Internet service. Please note that by default, on each wall, only one of these two connections on each wall is actually live. By default the live Internet connection is the one above the TV plug is generally blue in color as opposed to white for the one below the TV connector.
The second connector is there so that if the furniture arrangement in the apartment is laid out in such a way that two connections (one for each resident) need to be on the same wall, for instance because two desks are placed against that wall, then we can re-route the live connection from the wall that is not going to have a computer connected to it, to the wall that will have to accommodate both Internet connections. This will be done by using a special short Ethernet cable to connect the two Internet plugs on the unused side to each other which then causes the signal to be transferred to the normally unused lower internet connection on the opposite wall.
Wireless Connections:
Each apartment, as well as the entire rest of the building is also served by a wireless systems. The wireless system consists of wireless signal transmitters that are placed in every third apartments. These transmitters have a range that can reach the apartment in which it is plugged-in, as well as, typically, the next two adjacent apartments. If you happen to be assigned to an apartment that has one of these wireless transmitters, then you will have to sign a receipt acknowledging that you have the unit in your apartment and you will be responsible for making sure that it remains connected, and that it remains in the apartment when you turn over the apartment back to us at the end of your lease term.
No password is needed for wireless connection.
We have wireless transmitters (access points) in every third room. Each wireless access point has a label that consists of 3 four digit numbers that correspond to the apartment number that the access point serves.
The first 4 digit number is for the apartment in which the access point is physically located. The other two 4 digit numbers indicate the apartment numbers of the other two apartments that the access point serves.
In order to get the fastest connection possible please always connect to the access point that has your apartment number in its name. So, for example if you are in apartment 3305 connect to the connection named 3304-3303-3305. Again this convention tells you that the access point is located in apartment 3304 and its transmitting wireless signals to apartments 3303 and 3305. So, if you are in any of those 3 apartments, you should select that particular connection to connect to the Internet.
Some of the other signals maybe strong enough for you to see as well, but please only use the connection with your apartment number in the name.
